In plain English

A fade curves toward your trail-hand side; a draw curves the other way. Neither is better — the best shape is the one YOUR numbers already want to hit.

Going deeper

Your stock shape lives in your face-to-path average. Playing WITH it (aim adjusted, same swing) shrinks your effective dispersion; fighting it doubles your miss.

The advanced view

Shape strategy is expectation management: a one-way curve removes half the course. Tour players don't hit it straighter than you think — they've eliminated one side. Your ShotIQ shape data tells you which side you can eliminate TODAY.

Why it matters for scoring

It converts your existing pattern from a 'miss' into a plan — the fastest scoring gain in this library.

How it shows up in your ball flight

The curve you already hit most. ShotIQ's Golf DNA names it from your real side-carry data.

How it shows up in launch monitor data

Golf DNA Shape (Fade/Draw/Straight), spin axis mean, face-to-path mean — three views of one truth.

Typical values: a repeatable ±2–4° face-to-path one way.

Symptoms

Common causes

How to improve it

  1. Name your shape from Golf DNA, then AIM for it: start line at the edge that lets it curve to the middle
  2. Practice your shape 80% of the time, the opposite 20%
  3. On course: only hit shapes you've measured
Common misconception. "Draws go farther, so I need one." A measured fade you own outperforms a theoretical draw you don't — distance comes from strike and attack, not shape.
