Practice Methodology
How you practice decides whether practice works.
In plain English
Raking balls with one club grooves comfort, not skill. Skills grow from feedback (know your result), variety (change clubs/targets), and stakes (make some shots matter).
Going deeper
Block practice (same shot repeated) builds technique early; RANDOM practice (new club/target each ball) builds course skill. The frustrating one is the one that transfers — your Transfer Score proves it.
The advanced view
Structure every session as diagnose → isolate → pressure-test: read your data, drill the one flagged cause in blocks, then re-test randomized with consequences. ShotIQ's session prescriptions are this loop automated.
Why it matters for scoring
It's the multiplier on every other concept in this library.
How it shows up in launch monitor data
Session-over-session trends and Transfer Score — flat trends with high volume = practice method, not talent.
Symptoms
- Hundreds of balls, same handicap
- Range hero, course zero
- Practicing strengths because they feel good
Common causes
- No feedback loop
- All block, no random
- Never practicing the flagged weakness
How to improve it
- Follow Today's Focus — drill the flagged issue FIRST
- Finish every session with a scored random game
- Shorter, structured sessions beat long rake-fests
