Towel Behind the Ball
🎯 Irons & ContactBeginner3 sets of 10 shots
What it fixes: Ball-first contact, eliminating fat shots.
How to do it
- Lay a folded towel flat about 6 inches behind the ball
- Hit normal iron shots without touching the towel
- If you hit the towel, your low point is too far behind the ball
- Progress: move the towel to 4 inches for a finer margin
Pro tip: Feel like your chest stays on top of the ball through impact

This drill moves Smash factor — track it session to session with the Smash Factor guide open. A drill without a measured before/after is a feeling, not a fix: hit a baseline block, do the drill, re-measure the same block.
Why this works: the mechanics behind it are explained in Low Point — Where your swing bottoms out — the difference between pure and fat.
