In plain English

Your swing is an arc with a lowest point. Irons are pure when that point is AFTER the ball (ball first, turf second). Fat and thin shots are just the low point in the wrong place.

Going deeper

Low point is controlled by pressure and ball position more than by hands: weight on the lead side pulls the bottom of the arc forward; hanging back throws it behind the ball.

  2. Divot-line drill: make the divot START at the line
  3. Rotate around the lead leg rather than sliding past it
Common misconception. "Help the ball up." The loft does that. Any scooping motion moves the low point behind the ball and produces the exact thin shot you feared.
