In plain English

Good swings shift pressure into the trail side going back, then to the lead side BEFORE the arms swing down, and finish fully rotated. Arms alone can't produce speed or repeatability.

Going deeper

Sequence beats effort: pressure shift → hips → chest → arms → club. When the order breaks (arms first), you get over-the-top paths and low-point chaos at once.

The advanced view

Ground force is the speed source: vertical push from the lead leg near impact adds clubhead speed and stabilizes low point. Stalled hips force a hand flip — most 'release problems' are actually rotation problems in disguise.

Why it matters for scoring

It's the common ancestor of path, low point AND speed — one fix here often moves three numbers.

How it shows up in your ball flight

Stalled rotation: hooks and fat strikes. Slide instead of turn: blocks and thins. No shift at all: steep out-to-in everything.

How it shows up in launch monitor data

Fingerprints: club speed below what your build suggests, carry variance (low point), and a path/face pair that worsens late in sessions as the body tires.

Typical values: sequence quality shows as steady speed with tight carry.

Symptoms

Common causes

How to improve it

  1. Step-through drills to feel the pressure order
  2. Finish EVERY practice ball fully rotated, belt buckle at the target
  3. Feel the lead leg push the ground away through impact
Common misconception. "Keep your head perfectly still." A frozen head blocks rotation — great players' heads move; their LOW POINT doesn't.
